FAQs
What is a SolarLight?
SolarLight uses a roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) solar panel connected by cable to an LED ceiling light. It produces daylight-like LED illumination rather than transmitting natural sunlight. Brightness in solar mode varies with sunlight, shading and installation conditions.
Roof access, cable routing and ceiling work require suitable skills and safe access. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific model, roof type, mounting and weatherproofing. A cable entry or roof fixing may be needed; the required method depends on the property. Installation is not a guarantee against leaks.
Hybrid mains operation is model-dependent. Any new or altered fixed mains wiring, switches or power points must be installed by a licensed electrician. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the supplied driver and input-control equipment.
Will it operate at night?
Solar-only operation depends on light reaching the PV panel. Selected hybrid models offer mains-powered operation after dark using compatible driver and control equipment. Check the model and included components before ordering.
Will installation require roof work?
Yes, the PV panel must be mounted outside and its cable routed to the ceiling light. Depending on the roof, cable entry may be possible under an existing ridge cap or tile. Mounting, routing and weatherproofing must follow the manufacturer's instructions. Do not assume that every roof can be installed without drilling or other roof work.
Can I install it myself?
Only undertake work you can perform safely and lawfully. Roof work, ceiling access and cutting can present serious risks. Installation time and professional help required depend on the property. Use a qualified installer when needed; mains wiring must be completed by a licensed electrician.
